Scoil Chroine
Dungloe, Co. Donegal
This contemporary extension to Scoil Chróine consisted of 2 No. classrooms, with central activity space and ancillary rooms. The modern addition acts as a strong bookend to this side of the building, using materials to complement the existing traditional school building.
The extension also provides the welcome addition of purpose-built outdoor facilities, including dedicated hard and soft play areas, alongside a sensory garden to support the children attending the SEN accommodation.
The new extension has been carefully planned to create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment that caters to a wide range of needs and abilities. The hard play area offers opportunities for structured activities and group interaction, while the soft play spaces provide a secure setting for imaginative and exploratory play. Together, these enhancements significantly enrich the overall learning environment, supporting both educational development and the physical and emotional wellbeing of the children.
McCabe Architects currently has over 30 special education needs projects at various work stages across Ireland.
