killybegs, donegal

The concept behind the dwelling is reflective of traditional, vernacular dwellings and outbuildings that contributes to the character of rural Donegal. This is achieved through materials, form and the clustered settlement patterns of traditional outbuildings.
Windows are placed to capitalise on views and orientation, maximizing solar gain. The glazing to the ground floor of the main block (facing Killybegs), will reflect and blend into the landscape. This will reduce the scale of the dwelling, giving a single story appearance from the only public view point. The stone and timber cladding used in other elevations will work to further reduce the scale of the dwelling from local views.
