The family home is laid out with a ‘T’ shape plan. A simple ‘A’ frame roof containing the sleeping block addresses the public road whilst the mono-pitched living block addresses the private entrance area and garden.
The main entrance is located to the east side of the building, the design provides for a courtyard space for visitors to arrive, slightly hidden behind the front block. This layout minimizes the hard surface area and allows the garden to run to the edge of the dwelling on the west side merging inside and outside living spaces.
The open-plan living block has a higher glazing to masonry ratio and more varied palette of materials. The materials proposed – white render, cedar cladding, natural slate differentiate each element yet the simple clean forms are reflective of those found in a rural setting. This arrangement of spaces maximizes privacy for our clients, views to Knocknarea and solar gain throughout the proposed dwelling.
