an teach nua, creevy, ballyshannon

Located in Ballyshannon, Co. Doneagl. An Teach Nua (The New House) is a permanent home and artist studio for two photographers and their family and designed to passivhaus standards.
This house is designed to live, breath and blend with the landscape. The linear form and dark exterior is inspired by early box cameras. The window front to the west allows the light to flood through and illuminate the interior - just like the lens of camera. This creates a balanced light for the clients' studio and living space.
The house is moulded with the surrounding countryside through the grass roof and the charred wooden cladding. An Teach Nua makes little or no visible impact on the rural landscape. The grass roof deliberately acts as the fifth elevation, visible as one approaches the site from the public road. This will mitigate any negative impact on the landscape.
