st. catherine's v.s., killybegs

The project consisted of construction through a devolved grant for a Special Needs Unit for children with Autism. In addition to this we worked with the school to secure additional funding for a new reception/principal's office.
The Special Needs Unit opened for the school year commencing in September 2015. The unit has a number of teaching spaces which allows for daily living skills to be taught in addition to traditional school subjects. The Autism Unit’s location was picked to allow the unit to be self-sufficient, with its own entrance but also connect to the school main internal circulation so integration is not impeded.
Works commenced in 2016 on the second phase of development which saw an extension to the principal’s office and reception area. This allowed for a secure entrance to the school in line with current guidelines and provided much needed waiting and meeting areas.
The completion of the principal’s office saw the full realization of the design. The single story, curving additions breaking down the scale of the imposing, original building.
