Forest House
Kilmacrenan, Co. Donegal
Situated in north Co. Donegal, Forest House, is nestled in a native woodland. The overall property comprises a section of the Leannan River SAC with diverse aquatic flora, rare breeding birds and wildlife. The client, a nature photographer desired a home and private studio to capitalise on the natural landscape. In response, Forest House is a deeply meditative environment with a high level of transparency and craftmanship, the spaces are divided into three mono-pitched blocks that run in an east-west axis. The building is about progression in both scale and transparency. Honest and quiet materials are used throughout the interior to establish a calming atmosphere. The home’s open and bright interior is meant to have a markedly different look than its dark charred larch exterior.
